Robert Calvin Milici

Dr. Robert Calvin Milici died August 18, 2022. He was born in New Haven, Connecticut, on August 8, 1931, to the late Margaret Koren Milici and Dr. Pompeo S. Milici. He grew up on the grounds of Kings Park Psychiatric Center in Smithtown, New York, where his father practiced as a resident psychiatrist. Bob loved living on Long Island Sound playing baseball, swimming, boating, and digging worms for extra cash. Bob completed his undergraduate studies at Cornell University where he was a member of Alpha Chi Sigma, then attended the University of Tennessee where he earned his Masters of Science and PhD. in Geology. He met the love of his life, Patricia Ann Hankley, at UT, and they were married in 1958. Bob made many exceptional contributions to the field of geology by authoring 150 publications, giving 50 presentations, and earning 10 awards from the professional geologic community. Originally working for the TN Division of Geology for 19 years, he went on to become the State Geologist of Virginia for 13 years. He finished his career working at the U.S. Geological Survey in Denver, Colorado, and Reston, Virginia for 21 years. Bob volunteered as a Scientist Emeritus at the USGS after his retirement until the age of 86. He engaged in his passion for baseball by coaching teams at Rocky Hill Little League in Knoxville, TN. Bob also volunteered as a Boy Scout Leader, basketball coach, and served for several years in the army reserves. Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Patricia, his daughter Pamela Milici Treece, his son Robert Craig Milici (Lucille), grandchildren Robert Alan Milici, Allyson Treece Michaud (Justin), Matthew Treece, and great granddaughter Giselle Michaud. Bob and Patty attended Ivy Creek United Methodist Church in Charlottesville, VA. Contributions may be made in his memory to a charity of your choice. The memorial celebration will be held in Marietta, Georgia, on October 1, 2022.
