Shirley Ann Hunter

September 8, 1934 — April 16, 2020

On Thursday, April 16, 2020, Shirley Ann Hunter, a loving wife and mother of four children, passed away at the age of 85 years old. Shirley was born on September 8, 1934, in Dallas, TX, to Graham David and Annie Guzardo Hall. Although Shirley was a Texan at heart, she moved to Kennesaw, GA in 1968. In addition to raising her family, Shirley had a passion for caring for foster children and helping single mothers and families by caring for their children in her home daycare. She was affectionately known by all as “Nonnie.” As a testament to her spirit, she was often found on the floor playing with the children or creating an outrageous adventure enjoyed by all. She was known for her quick wit, strength, passion, tenacity, love of God and her church and, especially, her delicious fudge she would make for all who she welcomed in her home. She loved reading, cooking, entertaining, watching old movies, and antique shopping. Shirley is survived by her devoted husband, Bill Hunter, and her four children: Kathryn Brittain, Theresa Ellison and her husband, Donnie, Rick Steely, and his wife, Roxanne, Graham Buttrey and his wife, Shannon. She also deeply loved her ten grandchildren, Marlo, Anthony, Nancy, Joshua, Chelsea, Joseph, Elizabeth, Luke, Paul, Jack, and nine great-grandchildren Strider, Brittain, Ellie, Wyatt, Mason, Lucy, Artem, Emelynn, & Graham. Family and friends of Shirley Ann Hunter are respectfully invited to attend the funeral mass of Shirley, which will be held at The Catholic Church of the Transfiguration on Friday, June 26, 2020, beginning at 4:30 pm.
