Stephen Shuryn

May 20, 1957 — March 2, 2024

Stephen "Steve" Shuryn, age 66, of Cartersville, Georgia, passed away on March 2, 2024, after a valiant battle with cancer.

Born on May 20, 1957, in Plainfield, New Jersey, Steve was known for his courageous spirit and analytical mind, traits that served him well both personally and professionally.

Steve is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Shuryn, who stood by his side in every chapter of life's journey. He was a devoted father to his sons, Scott and Greg Shuryn, his daughter, Stephanie Shuryn, his stepdaughter, Melaney Aho and his stepson, Leonard C. Figula. He was predeceased by his son, Jason Shuryn, whose memory he held close to his heart.

Steve's academic journey led him to earn a Bachelor of Science as a Medical Technologist in Laboratory from Fairleigh Dickinson University's Madison campus in New Jersey. His career was marked by dedication and excellence, as evidenced by his progression from Manager to Regional Manager, and his receipt of the prestigious Steuben Award for 20 years of service. Steve's professional life was a testament to his commitment to his field and the people he served.

Beyond his professional achievements, Steve had a passion for life and a variety of interests that reflected his vibrant personality. He was an ardent supporter of Alabama Football, and he found solace in the rhythmic waves of the ocean. Steve was an enthusiast for surfing, a hobby that complemented his love for the water and led him to cherish his time in Guam, the Jersey Shore, and Georgia. Family gatherings were incomplete without Steve's favorite, a hearty turkey dinner, which he relished with joy and gratitude.  Steve's spirit was best encapsulated by a quote from the renowned author, Helen Keller: "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all." He embodied this sentiment, approaching each day as an opportunity for adventure and discovery. His spirit and tenacity left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him.

As we bid farewell to Steve, we celebrate a life lived with intention and a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering courage. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Steve's journey through life was a reflection of the man he was: strong, spirited, and ever forward-looking.  In honoring Steve's memory, we remember not only the battles he fought but also the love he shared, the wisdom he imparted, and the joy he brought into our lives. His was a life well-lived, full of moments that will be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to share them with him. Rest in peace, Stephen "Steve" Shuryn.
