Steven Lamar King

October 6, 1948 — July 23, 2023

In the realm of our mortal coil, Steven Lamar King, known to all as Steve, has taken his final bow. Born on the sixth day of October in the year of our Lord 1948, in the fair city of Carrollton, Georgia, Steve returned to the selfsame place to make his exit on the twenty-third day of June, 2023. His life's final scene was played out against the formidable foe that is cancer, but Steve, in his indomitable spirit, fought valiantly until the very end.

Steve was the fruit of the late Lelton and Lillie Maude King's loins, and the brother to the late Homer and Loyce King. His survivors include his beloved wife, Diane King, his son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Tina King II, and his grandsons, Vincent "Vince" King, Spencer King, and Christopher "CJ" Nordman. His lineage continues with his great granddaughter, A'aleah King. He leaves behind his brother, Phil King and his sister, Ima Jean Collins, along with close kin, Harold "JR" and Lee McKeown, and a multitude of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In the chronicles of his life, Steve's courage in the face of adversity was stalwart. He served his nation with distinction in the Vietnam War, earning both the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his valor. Upon his return, he lent his labor to Southwire, until he pursued his entrepreneurial vision, establishing King's Plumbing, a testament to his tenacity and industriousness.

Steve was a man of many a passion. He found joy in the roar of NASCAR and the thrill of dirt track racing. He sought solace in the tranquility of fishing, and the primal purity of the hunt. These pastimes served as testament to his spirited nature, and his love for life's simple pleasures.

Steve King was a man of keen intellect, his mind a workshop where problems were met with innovative solutions. His hands, ever-handy, were creators and fixers, shaping the world around him to his will. His spirit, ever-vibrant, was a beacon to those around him, a testament to living life to its fullest, and facing adversity with courage and determination.

As we bid adieu to Steven Lamar King, let us remember him not with sorrow, but with a joyous heart. For in his life, he exemplified the virtues of courage, tenacity, and love for his family. His memory shall be as a beacon, guiding us through the tempests of our own lives, reminding us that though our time here is finite, our impact can echo through the ages.

So, here's to Steve King. A man of intellect, a man of spirit, a man of unyielding courage. May we strive to live as he did, and in doing so, keep his memory forever alive in our hearts. For in the words of the bard himself, "All the world's a stage, And all the men and women merely players; They have their exits and their entrances, And one man in his time plays many parts." Steve played his parts well, and for that, he shall forever remain in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers a GoFundMe page has been set up for contributions to help the family with Steve's final arrangements.  https://gofund.me/515e75e5
