Veda Kiz Tatum Nuckolls, affectionately known by many as Veve, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2024, at the age of 94 in Dalton, GA. Born on May 7, 1929, she led a life marked by devotion to her family, her work, and her faith. Veve was the cherished matriarch of a large and loving family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Lamont Nuckolls, her parents, siblings, and other family members. She is survived by her 3 children, Randy Nuckolls (Suzanne), Belinda LaVelle (Blair), and Dwana Malone (Joe). Veve's legacy continues through her 9 grandchildren, Bart Hill (Katherine), Daniel LaVelle (Sydney), Jon LaVelle (Aubrey), Stephen LaVelle (Brittany), Emily Polk (Jon), Caroline Lucas (Colin), Tatum Williams (Graham), Taylor Malone, and Tessa Dalton (Brandon), as well as her 13 adored great-grandchildren, Gracie, Mia, and Henry Hill, Ellie and Ethan Williams, Ryan, Cooper, and Brooks LaVelle, Adilyn Tapia, Hadley Jo Dalton, Ada and Agnes Polk, and Flora Lucas. Each of them brought her immense joy and pride. Other survivors include her brother-in-law, Denton Nuckolls, sisters-in-law, Martha Nuckolls and Bertha Tatum, and many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to her two loving caregivers, LaSonya Bonds and Pam Gunter.
Veve was a graduate of West Side High School. After raising her 3 children, she returned to the work force for over two decades serving with dedication in the Whitfield County Clerk of Courts Office. Her faith was an integral part of her life. For over 70 years, Veve was a dedicated and very active member of the Tunnel Hill Community Church. Her unwavering faith guided her through life's challenges and joys, and she was a source of spiritual inspiration for many within her church community. Veve's interests were rooted in the love she had for her family. She cherished the time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, creating memories that they will hold dear for a lifetime. Her home was often filled with laughter, storytelling, and the warmth of her hospitality.
Please join us in honoring the life of Veda Kiz Tatum Nuckolls, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Visitation and Service will be in the Tunnel Hill Community Church Sanctuary on Sunday, April 28, 2024. The Celebration of Life Service will be at 4:00 PM. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Tunnel Hill Community Church or the Georgia 4-H Foundation.
