William René Sandelowsky, 77, died at his home on 30 April 2023 after a brief battle with cancer. He was born 26 August 1945 in Riberalta, Bolivia, the youngest of Dr. Werner and Mrs. Hilde Sandelowsky’s three children.
Will immigrated to the United States with his family in 1948. During his life, he lived in many places, including New York, Kentucky, Washington, Oregon, and Georgia. He was a world traveler and loved experiencing new cultures. He was particularly fond of his trips to South Africa & Namibia, Europe, and Guatemala.
Will was a man of many skills and had several careers throughout his life. He was an Army veteran, owned and operated a smokehouse in the Pacific Northwest, and started a residential construction business with his wife, Beth, working in the Atlanta area for over 25 years. His service to his country and his communities gave him a unique perspective and philosophy and he loved having deep conversations with people, no matter their viewpoints.
Will gave of himself freely, donating his time and skills to those who needed them, whether that meant fixing something broken or fixing them a meal. He taught his children and grandchildren the value of working with their hands, the joy of creating something beautiful, and the magic in thinking of new possibilities. He taught himself guitar and particularly liked picking out John Prine tunes. He loved the ocean and was happiest with a rod and reel in his hands, even if he wasn’t catching anything.
Will is survived by his wife, Beth, his children, Marcus, Benjamin, Kristin, and Marjorie, his grandchildren, Isabella, Colton, and Aidan, his sister and brother, Marilyn and Ken, his nieces and nephew, Deborah, Scott, and Alexis, and his great-niece and -nephew, Megan and Jackson. He is predeceased by his parents and his sister, Ellen.
No memorial service is immediately planned. The family will contact family and friends when a memorial is scheduled. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local food pantry, Habitat for Humanity, or cook a meal for loved ones and share your favorite stories.
May Will’s optimism and passion for all things live on through his family and may his memory be a blessing to those who knew him.
